We’re wrapping up the holidays here in Mid-Coast Maine and getting ready for some winter fun. With the sun sparkling on a fresh coat of snow, it’s time to break out the skis and skates and play outside. Take advantage of the “Quiet Season Savings” at the Newcastle Inn and bundle up for a winter getaway along the coast of Maine.
If you need a little inspiration to spark your interest in a winter holiday, we’ve got you covered. Think schussing down a mountain side with a view of the ocean. Channel your inner child as you settle into a wooden toboggan for a downhill run across a frozen pond. The mid-coast area of Maine offers a ton of opportunities to get outside and play.
Let’s break it down for you.
Camden Snow Bowl
The Camden Snow Bowl has it all. Downhill skiing with that promised view of the ocean is perhaps the most stunning aspect of a day spent on this slope. But add to that a fantastic toboggan chute, fat biking, a Nordic ski loop, a terrain park, and backcountry glades and you’ve got a recipe for the perfect way to spend the day outside.

A little bit further afield, but well worth the trip, the trails at Reid State Park in Georgetown, or Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park in Freeport provide ample opportunity to challenge your skills in a magnificent setting.
Snowmobiling
With more than 14,000 miles of groomed snowmobiling trails, it’s no wonder folks with a need for speed head to Maine. Snowmobile Maine is your source for all the information you need to plan a great snowmobiling adventure.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing season begins on January 1 and runs through the end of March. If you’re an avid fisherman, there’s no need to put away your fishing equipment when the snow falls and the ponds ice over. Check out Maine Ice Fishing Guides for details.
At the end of the day in the great outdoors, come back to the Newcastle Inn and warm your toes by the fire. After a good night’s sleep in one of our comfortable guest rooms, get ready for a hearty breakfast cooked especially for you.
