Pemaquid Oysters and Sheep – Oh My!

If you think that things come to an end, and the “season” is over in MidCoast Maine at the end of August then you would be wrong! The month of September continues to offer a wealth of activities and things to do. At the end of September, there are two events in particular, that are worth a visit.

The wonderful Common Ground Fair is held September 25, 26 & 27, 2015 in Unity, Maine. This fair is unique and special and celebrates the agricultural and rural traditions of Maine. You will find everything from sheep herding demonstrations to cooking demos featuring Maine produce and everything in between.

That same weekend, on Sunday, September 27, the Pemaquid Oyster Festival is held. If you are an oyster lover then this is the place to be. Held at Schooner Landing, just a short 1/2 mile walk from Newcastle Inn over the river in Damariscotta, the festival celebrates the oyster and raises money for the Edward A. Myers Marine Conservation Fund. Because there are so many generous donors to the festival, every dollar goes directly to the fund.

So, a busy weekend in MidCoast Maine and that means that rooms at the inn are filling up fast!  Don’t delay in making your reservation today so that you are able to enjoy both of these events the last weekend in September!
